Bourque (Ray) is born in Montreal, Canada.

Ray Bourque is drafted by the Boston Bruins and plays his first game for the team in 1979.* He goes on to win the Calder trophy as the rookie of the year and five Norris trophies in 20 seasons with the Bruins. Although traded to the Colorado Avalanche in 2000, he receives a reception at City Hall Plaza that attracts 20,000 fans to see the Stanley Cup that he helps win for his new team in 2001. Bourque retires from hockey shortly thereafter.
